DistortionLens

(Studio)

Small software, carefully made.

DistortionLens is an independent software studio. We make our own products — browser extensions and creative tools — and build websites for a small number of clients.

(01) Story

DistortionLens started with a simple idea: build the tools we actually want to use. We were tired of software that makes simple things complicated.

Our first product, Multi-Finder Pro, came from a real need — searching a page for several things at once without juggling find dialogs. So we built it, and we still use it every day. Writer's Canvas follows the same instinct, for people writing serialized stories.

We're not a big company, and we don't want to be. We're a small, focused studio that cares about craft, and everything we ship is something we would use ourselves.

(02) Principles

How we work.

  1. 01

    We use what we make.

Our products start as tools we needed ourselves, and we keep using them after they ship. It is the fastest way to find out what is wrong with them.

  2. 02

    Fewer features, finished.

We would rather ship one thing that feels inevitable than five that feel provisional. Scope is a design decision.

  3. 03

Design and engineering in one room.

The person drawing the interface is the person building it, so the details survive the handoff — because there isn’t one.

(03) Capabilities

What we build.

01

Browser extensions

Manifest V3, in-page interfaces that sit politely on top of any site, accounts and sync.

02

Product software

Web apps with real editors, offline support and the boring-but-vital parts: auth, billing, data.

03

Websites & stores

Editorial sites, commerce and the admin tools that keep them running.

04

Interactive & 3D

WebGL, motion and the small details that make an interface feel made rather than assembled.

Tools we reach for

  • TypeScript
  • React
  • Next.js
  • Chrome APIs
  • Supabase
  • Stripe
  • three.js
  • Tailwind

(04) The mark

Twelve blades, one aperture.

The mark began as a glass render: twelve shards turning around an opening, like the iris of a lens.

We redrew it as twelve identical blades. Each one's trailing edge runs parallel to the next one's leading edge, so every gap is the same width — and each blade pivots on its outer tip, so the mark can open and stop down like the real thing.
